Pool Tile Restoration

Tile Solution Australia is proud to offer a variety of pool tile restoration options so that you can have the ideal surface in and around your pool and pool deck. No matter whether your pool surrounds are tile or natural stone, these surfaces will face a certain amount of weathering from both chlorine and exposure to the elements. As swimming pools age, the ground around it begins to settle. No matter how well constructed the pool is, this can cause minor cracks and shifts in the pool’s walls. As the pool settles, the mortar holding the swimming pool tiles can loosen, causing the tiles to pop off or crack. We offer a range of Pool Tile Restoration options to help you clean, repair, restore and protect your tiles, grout and natural stone in and around your pool.

Our Pool Tile Restoration Services

The swimming pool is a luxury in your house. If the tiles or grout in the swimming pool is dirty, the water in it will also look dirty. Maintenance of pool is necessary  or it will become unhygienic. Thus, a swimming pool must be cleaned properly. The type of cleaning needed to keep your pool surrounds in good condition will depend on the type of tile or stone you have. It is important to identify what type of tile or stone you have and what sealer has been used, to select the best cleaning option that will not inadvertently damage your tiles in the process. Please refer to our Tile Cleaning page for for more information.

All the cleaning and maintenance in the world could be in vain if your pool surrounds are not sealed. Sealers act as a protective barrier between tiles or pavers, grout, and dirt, water or chlorine. Sealing your pool surrounds makes these surfaces much easier to clean and maintain, as dirt, particles, dust and stains cannot penetrate the surface of the tile or paver. All natural stone and grout in and around your pool should be properly sealed with the appropriate sealer. All exposed surfaces, including the underside of the coping that hangs over the edge of the pool must have adequate sealer applied, which varies depending on porosity of the stone. All surrounding stone should be grouted. To protect your investment, it is recommended that resealing occurs every few years to mitigate the water ingress into the stone. Resealing is required when the stone allows water to rapidly penetrate, giving a wet darkened look. Please refer to our Sealing page for more information.

The majority of swimming pools are surrounded by pavers, tiles or natural stone to enhance the beauty of the pool area and the backyard in general. However, high traffic, chlorine, general wear and tear and excessive movement can all lead to the need to replace your grout. We offer a rage of re-grouting options. Please refer to our Re-Grouting page for more information.

Expansion Joints

Installing Expansion Joints

The pool expansion joint is an important element of your in-ground swimming pool. It is an interface between the pool and the pool deck, which allows space for each to expand when weather becomes warmer. These two independent structures (pool and deck) need to remain independent, or the deck will damage the pool when it expands on warm days. Expansion Joints can protect your pool from damages caused by:

  • Movement from thermal loads.
  • Moisture content changes.
  • Drying shrinkage.
  • Deflection.

Replacing Expansion Joints

Pool expansion joints are required around pools to allow for the movement of tiles or pavers without cracking the grout joints. They are commonly found at intervals of approximately 4 metres and around the pool coping border. Over time, these joints can stain, wear out, rip and separate from the edges of the tiles. If you notice a damaged pool expansion joint, it requires immediate replacement in order to stop water entering under the tile surface, which can cause efflorescence, and eventually drummy or dislodged tiles.

Similar to any other surface, tiles in an around pools can get damaged overtime. Tiles could get loosened, dislodged or cracked. This can be caused by natural wear and tear, staining, algae growth, corrosive water or by dropping a heavy object on to the tile. No matter what the cause is, most damaged tiles can be repaired or replaced individually without having to re-tile the entire area. Please refer to our Tile Repairs page for more information.

Efflorescence Removal

Efflorescence is salt deposits that moisture brings to the surface of masonry substrates. The moisture evaporates, leaving the white salty residue behind. This occurs especially on permeable concrete, stone and brick surfaces. It can be a cosmetic issue, or it can be an indication of moisture intrusion that could lead to major structural damage with tiles falling off the substrate. At Tile Solution Australia, our technicians are equipped with the latest equipment and products to remove efflorescence without damaging the tiles.

Acid Wash

The process of acid-washing your pool removes unsightly stains due to hard water and algae buildup. Once your water begins to look murky and unusually green or black, it’s likely that your pool could use an acid-wash to clean it up. Without regular maintenance, your pool water will begin to allow the growth of algae. Algae growth that sits in your pool for months or more at a time will stain the porous plaster of the pool so deeply that you won’t be able to remove it with regular scrubbing. Algae spores can burrow deep inside the porous plaster and continue to bloom, which the acid-wash can completely eliminate. Your pool generally only needs an acid-washing every few years if you regularly treat and maintain the water in it. Improperly washing your pool with acid may not only damage the plaster, but could lead to discolouration. Consult our professional technicians regarding acid-washing to avoid issues with your pool.

Honed concrete and polished natural surfaces have become a very popular choice for pool surrounds whether you are refurbishing and existing pool or building a new pool. These options are low maintenance and can be easily cleaned without the need of special products. As these floors start to show marks of wear and tear, you can do a light grind and polish to give them a brand new look. If you are unhappy with the way your floor looks, you can always change the look of your surface to honed, matte, semi gloss or gloss. Please refer to our Grinding and Polishing page for more information.
